Pregnancy & Postpartum

Herbal support from the first trimester through the fourth

Many people think there are no herbal options in pregnancy.

Years of careful analysis of traditional use, human studies, animal research, case reports, plant chemistry and each herb’s effects on the uterus mean I feel confident making safety-checked herbal recommendations. We are always conservative and put the health of you and your baby first, and there are helpful plants that relieve symptoms and support the process of building a baby.

My approach

Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety is my specialty. Every herb in your formula is checked against my 213-herb safety database for your stage, from the first trimester through weaning, and your plan changes as you do.

Your plan can include:

  • Herbal teas and tinctures for your stage
  • Food and nutrient support
  • Rest and recovery routines
  • Support for feeding

Common questions

Is it safe to take herbs while pregnant?

Some herbs have a long record of safe use in pregnancy and others are contraindicated, so safety comes from matching the herb and the amount to your trimester. I check every herb against my 213-herb pregnancy and breastfeeding safety database before it goes in your formula.

Can I take herbs while breastfeeding?

Many people take herbs while breastfeeding when they work with a clinical herbalist who checks how each herb passes into milk and affects your baby. Your formula is built around your baby’s age and your supply, and it changes as feeding does.

Can I work with you alongside my midwife or OB?

Yes. The work is complementary to your prenatal and postpartum care, and I’ll tell you when something calls for your midwife or OB. I don’t diagnose, prescribe, or treat medical conditions.

What if my mood feels off after birth?

Mood shifts in the first two weeks after birth are common, and herbal support can sit alongside your other care. If low mood lasts longer than two weeks, or you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, contact your doctor or midwife right away, or call your local emergency number.
